Oruz Icon - By Welihn by Welihn

It seemed that time had been passing at a slower speed, the days felt so long, yet the longer the seemed to last, the more it felt like they had been wasted away. Why? Much like everything in his life, Oruz only wanted answers, to live without them was like torture; a torture he had to endure every day of his existence.

Why did the seasons change?

Why was the sky blue, and the sun yellow?

Why was there colors?

Why did wolves smile?

Why did they cry?

Why?

Oruz contemplated as he laid sprawled on the forest floor lost in his thoughts in yet another attempt to ignore the acidic pain that bubbled inside him. The sound of his rumbling stomach was buzzing in his ears; it was the only thing to break the silence of that morning, not even the birds dared to sing. How much longer would this last? His patience was wearing thin.

The pain stung him again followed by cold shiver that rushed through his body, he shut his eyes tightly to conceal his suffering, but he could only take this for so long, and finally he gave in, gathering the remaining energy within him to get back up to his paws, shaking the particles of dirt and debris off of his pale coat before forcing his weakened limbs to carry him forward and out of the cover of the forest. With each step he took his legs trembled threatening to give in to his weight, but he fought to continue, driven by a familiar metalic scent; Blood.

What he was about to do was something he had never before in his life considered, the very thought only made his stomach churn more. The Prince could never conform to the action, nothing could be so disgusting, so low... But he was consumed by the desperation; he could not allow his state to worsen.

He had tried to ignore the situation for far too long, dismissing the early signs as unimportant. - He had made a mistake, one he would never admit to himself.

But it was too late now and his body craved for food.

Uneasy steps carried him out of the cover of the forest, his diluted-red eyes were met by bright rays of sunlight that pierced into his sensitive pupils; making them shrink to nothing but tiny spheres before Oruz shut his eyes close again to avoid the light, opening them only enough to see a blurred image of where he was. Now his nose was the only reliable navigation tool he used, sensitive nostrils filtering the scents and driving him directly to the blood, until finally the scent was strong enough and he opened his eyes again, fighting the reflex to keep them shut.

There before his eyes laid the lifeless carcass of a female cervid, the body was a few days old, the smell of rotten meat floated in the atmosphere. No animal seemed to have touched the body except a few of the most desperate of creatures. The injuries on it's leg and underbelly seemed to indicate that this had been a target of another predator, who for some reason unkown to him, had not continued the attack; The animal died from it's wounds or blood loss. But then again, why didn't other animals take advantage of it? Was it sick? Infected? He frowned, eyeing the carcass with suspicious eyes.

A sudden rumbling in his stomach interrupted his trail of thought.

He didn't have a choice.

To not eat now would risk depleting his remaining energy to the point where his survival would be highly threatened, and he knew he could not afford the risk.

His snout was close to the carcass now as he breathed in the putrid stench - aside from the natural aroma of rotting meat he could not detect any other smell that could signify danger, and with that conclusion he finally closed his jaws on the animal's thick leathery skin, opening a fresh hole in the animal without much effort; the smell that puffed out of the opened hole made the Prince back away again in an almost instinctive reflex.

I can't, i
'm fine.

He repeated in thought a few times, but he did know the truth. Just... What was going on with him?

Stepping closer to the corpse again, Oruz had finally decided, and this time without hesitation he poked his head into the animal and closed his jaws on a chunk of meat and then pulled out, laying down in the ground - warmed by the sunlight - chewing on the meat until it was small enough to swallow. He just wanted this to be over with, and ate as quickly as he could manage.

He tried to repeat the process, one, two, three more times until he could no more.

It was enough now, he could go on with this to sustain him for a few days now.

For the rest of the day, Oruz would lay in the shadow  of the trees... And sleep

He could only hope this would never happen again.

The saga continues.
and you'll never find a wolf more childishy finicky, and prissy than this, sorry, there's no way.
